Open joy for East Lancashire trio
10:22am Tuesday 26th June 2012 in Golf By Gary York
OPEN LEADER Mark Young of Hurst Green at the Open qualifying at Clitheroe
THREE East Lancashire golfers are celebrating after moving one step closer to winning a coveted place at this year’s Open Championships.
A field of almost 100 headed to Clitheroe Golf Course yesterday for regional qualifying, with just the top 10 making it through to next week’s local final qualifying.
Current Lancashire amateur champion Mark Young, of Hurst Green, and Chorley professional Mark Bradley led the way as they both shot rounds of two-under par 69.
There was also success for Pleasington amateur Robert Middleton, who went around in 71 to finish joint seventh.
