STONYHURST Park’s new lady captain Janet Halfpenny struck a tremendous drive to ceremoniously mark the start of her year.

The ladies of Stonyhurst enjoyed a afternoon of golf to celebrate the event, with Linda Ashworth taking first place with 20 points.

Second with 17 points was Margaret McAllester and in third place was the lady captain herself with a respectable 16 points, topping it off by being the only lady to score a two on the par three holes.

Nelson GC’s ladies kick-started their campaign in the Daily Mail Foursomes with Pauline Burrows and Helen Varley represting the club.

They travelled to Branshaw GC to play their first match and, despite giving nine shots and being three down, they fought back to win.

Meanwhile, Mytton Fold GC held their Mr Captain (Gordon Lucas) and Lady Captain (Patricia Leyland) Drive-Ins over the weekend.

Coming first on Saturday was the team of Luke Chadwick and Martin Holden with 40 points, with past captain John Berry and Frank Hindle runners-up just two points in arrears.

On Sunday, Allison Nuttall led the field home with an excellent 40 points, seven points clear of second-placed Abbie Clegg. Jean Sanderson and Judith Kay both scored 32 points.
