LANCASHIRE golf champ Emily Taylor has set her sights on emulating Chorley’s Lora Fairclough by turning professional.
Taylor, who recently joined Chorley Golf Club, last year became the youngest winner of the Lancashire Women’s Championship when she was just 14.
And now she’s plotting a career path similar to the club’s most celebrated member Fairclough – who won three tournaments on the Ladies European Tour and reached the top 10 on the Order of Merit five times between 1993 and 1999.
“I’ve played with her a few times and I hope to follow in her footsteps and compete on tour,” said the St Michael’s High School pupil.
Taylor, who turned 15 last September and plays off one handicap, made a dream start to her season by winning two events at the Hacienda del Alamo Women’s and Girls’ Festival in Spain, clinching the Murcia Under 16 and Under 18 Open titles in convincing fashion.
She is now expected to make a significant contribution to the club as it throws open its doors to more women.
Lady captain Jean Takacs explained: “We have a shortfall this season because several of our older members have retired and we are keen to replace them.
“Lora has been a perfect ambassadress and we feel Emily will be too.
"It’s fantastic news that a player of her class has joined us.
