Matt Donlan, the man the bookies cheer, with a new World Cup betting tip each day.

* THE South Americans are looking the pick of the bunch, and you can get 6-1 with Coral for Brazil to face Argentina in the final on July 11.

* WAYNE Rooney is 16/1 to be caught on camera making an obscene gesture to the fans this afternoon, despite apologising for his outburst on Friday.

* GERMANY are now 40/1 shots to win the World Cup on penalties – but are still 4/1 to reach the final despite their 1-0 defeat to Serbia.

* FABIO Capello is not so fab in the eyes of the bookies who say the Italian may not be in charge of England at the start of next year. Odds have shortened to 13/8.

* ALL the talk is of the new ball and the amazing distances it travels. Bookies are offering 200/1 on a goalkeeper scoring from his own area.

* TALK about blowing your own trumpet - it’s a value 50/1 shot that the South African noise-making vuvuzelas will be banned before the end of the World Cup.

* WAYNE Rooney has been told to mind his language ahead of the World Cup with referees primed to take action against any cursing player. The hot-tempered Manchester United hotshot is a 28/1 shot to be red carded against the United States and 6/1 to be sent off at any time in the tournament. He is 8/1 to be booked for dissent in the opener.

* FABIO Capello says he will not name his goalkeeper until two hours before the opening game against the United States. That has excited the bookies, who have Joe Hart as a 5/1 shot to start.

Robert Green and David James are both 4/5.

* THE World Cup has the ability to throw up marvellous stories and Steven Gerrard could live the dream against the USA on Saturday night. The Liverpool midfielder has taken over as captain following the injury to Rio Ferdinand and he is quoted as 100/30 to score the winning goal for the Three Lions in the opener. Gerrard is also listed as a 20/1 shot to be given a red card in the game.

* ENGLAND kick off their World Cup campaign against the United States on Saturday night - but all ears could be on the TV commentators and their hackneyed phrases. Bookies are offering 6/1 on England’s 1966 World Cup triumph being mentioned four times or more during the opening game by ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley.

* WILL they sing or will they keep quiet? There is always much deliberation over England players belting out the national anthem...or not. And the bookies reckon most will warble God Save the Queen. They have it 11/10 that between seven and nine England men will sing against the United States, while none of Capello’s choriboys singing is a 20/1 shot.

* DAVID Beckham may be injured but you can get 6/1 on his name being mentioned 10 times or more during the commentary of England’s first game at the World Cup.

* BARCELONA are many people’s second favourite football team with their array of superstars - and punters can take a gamble on the leading scoring Barca star at the tournament. Lionel Messi is available at 15/8 to be crowned top Barca scorer - but the favourite is David Villa of Spain. Villa is a 2/1 shot to be the leading scorer - and is also 150/1 to sign for Aston Villa after the World Cup. At the other end of the scale, Carlos Puyol is 75/1 to score more than any of his team-mates.

* SPAIN are 4/1 favourites to win the tournament, with Brazil at 9/2. England and Argentina are both 13/2, while the Netherlands are 11/1 with Germany and Italy 14/1.

* REFEREE Howard Webb is an 18-1 shot to land the World Cup final – and you can get 100-1 on him doing a Graham Poll and giving three yellow cards in a game.

* ENGLAND coach Fabio Capello says his men will be working on their penalties ahead of the World Cup – so a price of 33-1 on them lifting the trophy after a penalty shoot out could be enticing.

* ITALIAN striker Antonio di Natale is a tasty 66-1 to be the World Cup's leading scorer. The Udinese striker was the top scorer in Serie A last season and is in red hot form. Wayne Rooney is a 6-1 shot not to find the net in South Africa.
