Rovers Ladies top scorer Saffron Jordan is in confident mood ahead of Sunday’s play-off final with Charlton Athletic at Bramall Lane.

Gemma Donnelly’s side face Charlton at the home of Sheffield United tomorrow (2pm) with a place in the Women’s Championship up for grabs.

Seven successive wins to end the season saw Rovers retain their FA Women’s Northern Premier Division title, as well as lifting the Lancashire County Cup and Premier League Cup.

They face a Charlton side who knocked them out of the FA Cup earlier this season, but Jordan, in fine form herself, has confidence in the squad that they can deal with the occasion.

They were beaten at the same stage last season by Tottenham Hotspur, but after an action-packed May, Jordan has belief in her team-mates.

She said: “We were back in training Tuesday and Thursday and looking forward to Sunday.

“We all believe in each other, we’re all in it as a team.

“It’s a really impressive team, the best one I’ve played in and I’m feeling really confident.”

Victory for Rovers would see them in contention to win promotion to the newly-named Women’s Championship, the level below the Women’s Super League (WSL).

Chief Executive Steve Waggott says the club have submitted their application should they overcome one of his former clubs, Charlton, with the promotion criteria not known until after the final.

He believes Donnelly’s side deserve huge credit for the way they have dealt with a packed fixture programme to claim trophies on three fronts.

And with success breeding success, following promotion for both the first-team and Under-23s, he’s hoping the Ladies can complete the set.

He said: “The success has been across the board from the first-team to the Under-23s and the Ladies.

“They have shot the lights out in terms of what they have achieved and what Gemma has done, winning two cups, the league and in the play-off final, I hope a lot of people can get along and support them.”

Manchester United and Southampton, newly-formed clubs for next season, are among those applying to be in the Championship next season.

And Rovers hope to be in that mix if they can overcome one final challenge when they face the southern area winners.

Waggott told the Lancashire Telegraph: “The application to get in to the Women’s Super League 2, which will be called the Championship from next season, there’s an application gone in and an interview six weeks ago and hopefully Gemma will navigate through against one of my former clubs, Charlton, who are usually a strong side, and then we’ll hear early next week what tier we’d be put in to.

“So fingers crossed on that one.”

Tickets for the game are priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 concessions.
