Harry Chapman lasted just 10 minutes of his comeback from five months out with a hamstring injury as he limped out of the Premier League Cup tie at Aston Villa.
Middlesbrough loanee Chapman cut a devastated figure as he was forced to be substituted in the opening stages after sprinting for the ball.
He immediately felt his hamstring and signalled to the bench he needed to be replaced, with Jack Vale his replacement.
The 20-year-old had just returned to East Lancashire from his parent club after undergoing rehabilitation with his parent club after surgery in Finland in November.
But the latest injury looks set to rule him out for another period of time, with Rovers having just eight games to play after tomorrow’s trip to Gillingham.
