Tony Mowbray felt Rovers lacked energy in the second half as they held on to earn all three points with a 2-1 win at Walsall.

But the boss was delighted to secure the victory which keeps Rovers top of League One and made it three consecutive wins.

Danny Graham put Rovers 2-0 up inside the opening half hour with close range finishes as the visitors were in complete control.

But Jack Fitzwater pulled one back just before the break and Mowbray admits that swung the momentum of the game.

He said: “Personally I felt that we were a bit flat but we have to take the points and be happy with them.

“We played well in the first-half and could have been out of sight , Danny does what he does and scored his goals and we could have scored more.

“Their goal was a disappointing one, the dressing room was loud at half-time, with the players not me, and it swung in momentum.

“They had some belief when at 3-0 at half-time to us they might have been trying to stop an embarrassment.

“That gave them some impetus and we weren’t very good in the second half, I could find an excuse and say a lack of energy at half-time with two players vomiting continuously for the 15 minutes.

“Both wanted to give it five minutes to see how they got on, we lacked some energy and drive in the second half, but let’s call the stars of the show along with Danny the supporters.

“An amazing turn-out and they will have had a great day out apart from wanting some action down their end in the second half.

“It wasn’t to be, so it was a bit flat, but let’s take the points and move on to the next one.”

Rovers were full value for their lead thanks to Graham's double in an impressive opening first half, and said: “I thought first-half we were really good, it was a professional front foot performance and we created plenty of chances.

“We scored some goals and it would’ve been nice to reproduce that in the second half but the goal on half-time gave them some momentum but we saw the game out.
“It wasn’t what we wanted second half but you can’t be on the top of your game all of the time.”

Graham took his tally to 15 for the season and moved beyond 150 career goals.

Of the 32-year-old, Mowbray added: “When you break his season down he’s been scoring almost every week at home but found it more difficult away from home.

“To lead the line like he did was excellent.

“If you think back to the game they had a young centre half and sometimes you target the opposition and we made the decision to play him in this one and it paid off big time.

“I’m always conscious of the next game and Danny has found it difficult with three games in a week since I have been here.”
