TONY Mowbray says he and the players share the fans’ expectation for Rovers to win games at this level.

Rovers were booed off by the Ewood Park crowd after a frustrating first half against Bury on Monday.

They improved after the break as goals from Danny Graham and Adam Armstrong ensured a 2-0 win over the Shakers as Rovers moved to 66 points from 33 games.

Mowbray knows his side need to keep collecting three points in their quest to make it back to the Championship at the first attempt.

And he told the Lancashire Telegraph:“There’s an expectation to win games from our fans and from me, I’m saying that to the players.

“I expect that we can find a performance, whoever we are playing, that is good enough to get the result.

“I think we’ve got a balance in the squad that gives us lots of options, we’ve got some speed and power at the top end, some attacking options, but also players who can keep it tight at the back.

“We have to try and pick the right team and if it’s not going well we have to be able to change it with the players we’ve got.

“Let’s keep going, not get too excited, focus on the job and get ready for the weekend.”

Rovers took until five minutes in to the second half to score the opening goal against Bury side who arrived in East Lancashire second bottom of the table.

They were forced to come from 2-0 down against another relegation threatened team, Oldham Athletic, in their previous home game and Mowbray added: “I do feel in the first 20 minutes every team comes with the same game-plan to try and frustrate whether that’s by sitting in or pressing high.

“But we wear teams down, push them back and we have developed a style of play when we get on top we can pin teams in their half.

“Danny (Graham) lives off service in to the box and picks up wonderful positions as his experience allows him to do and we know he can finish.

“When the chances come he has been sticking them in the onion bag and we’re delighted he is.”

Rovers made four changes from the side that beat Portsmouth six days earlier with Darragh Lenihan, Amari’i Bell, Corry Evans and Danny Graham all brought in.

That also brought about a switch to a back three, something Rovers had finished their previous two matches with.

“We’ve done it the other way starting 4-2-3-1 and switching to a back three and having huge success doing that,” Mowbray explained.

“It was just a variation to be able against a team who are set in how they are playing against us to give them another problem.

“It was good to give (Marcus) Antonsson 20 minutes, half an hour, to get Jack on the pitch, Dominic (Samuel) will be kicking his heels and we’ve got some good options.

“We have to keep going and try and win matches.”
