TONY Mowbray welcomed three vital points as Rovers moved top of League One with a 2-0 win over Bury at Ewood Park, despite not being at their fluent best.

Rovers were booed off at the break and needed second half goals from Danny Graham and Adam Armstrong to settle the game.

The win leaves Rovers top of the table, two points clear of Shrewsbury Town, with 13 games of the season remaining.

And Mowbray said: “I think the points were all important.

“Bury frustrated the shape we played, their defensive midfielders sat on our attacking players and didn’t give us much room in the first-half.

“They made it really difficult for us to play with any real fluency.

“The pitch was a bit bobbly and we decided at half-time that we were going to be that bit more direct, play in to Danny more if we could and play more players higher up.

“Ultimately we got the job done. I was a bit frustrated that we weren’t as fluent as we can be but it doesn’t really matter, we won 2-0, delighted for the goalkeeper and the defenders with the clean sheet and it’s just one hurdle we’ve jumped over and we’ve got to keep going.”

Despite moving top of the table, Mowbray was far from getting carried away by Rovers’ lofty position.

He added: “I don’t think we’ll be getting too excited.

“We can all see the table and see that Wigan have three games in hand and they generally win their football matches in this league.

“We shouldn’t be getting carried away, we needed to win, Rotherham are steaming up behind us and it was important to keep that distance but seven points feels fairly comfortable.

“They could have to win three games more than us and we might not lose three games in our last 13 games, but you can hit a run as Wigan have and it’s how you react and keep your nerve and react.

“There might be a stage when you have to do that.

“The players are very focussed, they know what’s expected and you could feel how disappointed the support base were, the team were booed off the pitch at half-time.

“The players were a bit frustrated at half-time but they went out there second half and got the job done.

“There’s a huge expectation at this club to win every game and we can’t always do that, you can’t always play champagne football, it’s about getting the job done and that’s what we did.”

Dack was at his best in the second period to inspire Rovers to victory, putting in a man-of-the-match showing which included an assist for Danny Graham’s opener.

“We’ve come to expect it from Bradley, he’s being doing it all year for us once he acclimatised to the group and he showed what a talent he is,” the boss said.

“He has to keep it going and see if he can play his part in the final 13 games and see how many wins we can get.

“I don’t want to stand here and build up one player too much.

“I thought Jack Payne was ‘amazing’ and he must be sitting here there thinking ‘how do I get in the team?’. I do when I see what he can do with the football and how he can keep us going forward, link the play, we’ve got some good players and Bradley isn’t the only one.

“Danny Graham with nine goals in his last 10 home games is amazing, Armstrong has settled in, Amari’i was good.

“Jack come off the bench and made a big difference.

“We’re ticking along, doing okay and delighted with the players.”
