TONY Mowbray is delighted to have secured the signature of Adam Armstrong and insists: ‘he looked really sharp in training’.

Armstrong joined Rovers on loan until the end of the season from Newcastle United after his deal with Bolton Wanderers was cut short last week.

Mowbray worked with the 20-year-old during their time at Coventry City in 2015/16 in which Armstrong netted 20 times in 40 league outings.

And Mowbray is hoping Rovers will benefit from the pairing reuniting ahead of the remaining 21 games.

He said: “Adam’s a young boy but he’s very dynamic and very prolific.

“I took him from Newcastle around two-and-a-half years ago to Coventry and he didn’t stop scoring.

“He’s fast, can score with both feet, wants to run in behind, is technical with the ball at his feet, wants to score goals.

“I'm delighted to get him. He knows me, he knows what I expect from him and he’s looked really sharp in training this morning.”

Armstrong scored three times in 23 outings for Championship side Wanderers.

He is available to go straight in to the Rovers squad for this weekend’s game with Shrewsbury Town.
And Mowbray told the club’s official website: “He still has to get to know our team, see how we play and what we do.

“Hopefully he can hit the ground running and we can enjoy watching him.”
