ROVERS have signed Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong on loan until the end of the season.
The striker was recalled from his loan spell at Bolton Wanderers last week with Rovers stepping in to sign the 20-year-old on a temporary deal.
Armstrong netted three times in 23 outings for the Championship side but struggled to hold down a starting spot.
He is reunited with Ewood boss Tony Mowbray with the pair having worked together during the 2015/16 season for Coventry City in which the England youth international netted 20 times as the Sky Blues missed out on a play-off spot.
Rovers pushed to try and sign him on loan in the summer, only for Armstrong to make the move to the Macron Stadium where he saw his season-long deal cut short on Thursday.
Armstrong will add another option to Rovers’ attacking ranks with Marcus Antonsson set for a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
He is likely to go straight into the squad for Saturday’s home game with Shrewsbury Town and will be available for Rovers’ remaining 21 League One fixtures.
Armstrong has made 21 appearances for his parent club, though just four of them have come as a starter, and he is yet to score for his hometown team.
He is under contract at St James’ Park until 2020.
