CHARLIE Mulgrew says any number of the Rovers squad could have collected the League One player of the month award for November, but is delighted to be playing his part in the club’s promotion push.

Mulgrew, and boss Tony Mowbray, collected both the monthly prizes after Rovers chalked up a maximum haul of 12 points from their league fixtures last month.

The skipper has been at the heart of that run, with four goals in as many games as Rovers moved to within three points of the automatic spots.

Mulgrew says there is a determination within the squad to win immediate promotion back to the Championship and admits a sense of responsibility was behind his decision to remain at Ewood Park in the summer.

“It was a great month. From a personal point view scoring a few goals and getting the award and as a team winning games and hopefully that’s the start of a good run,” the Scot said.

“You could look about the squad and any number of players could have (won it) but I’m honoured it’s me but it’s a real reflection of the whole team.

“Everyone has a different role in the team and there’s a good team spirit in the changing room and we are all pushing in the right direction for the same thing and I’m honoured that’s it’s me but it really could have been anyone of the boys.

“I’m delighted that it’s me but also that we’re winning games which is the most important thing.”

Mulgrew, who marked his 50th Rovers outing with a goal in the win over Bristol Rovers last month, says he and his family are settled in the area after his move from Celtic last summer.

He added: “Once I got my round it I realised I was part of the team that went down so it was my responsibility to help the club back up and hopefully further than that.

“I took that on board and thought that was my responsibility and my duty and that is the decision I made.

“It’s easy to sit here and say it but when I sat and had a think about it me being part of the team that went down you have a certain responsibility to get back and I felt that responsibility.

“It’s okay to hide away but at the end of the day you have to look yourself in the mirror and I knew that.

“My family are settled here, I’m happy with the move I made. I needed a change and this is a great club and there’s some great people here who deserve to be at a higher level and I’m going to do all I can to make that happen.

“Everywhere in the changing room is in the same boat and of the same mindset.”

Mulgrew became the first Rovers player since Jordan Rhodes in September 2015 to win a player of the month award, while Mowbray claimed his 10th manager of the month prize.

They will look to mark their success with a fifth consecutive victory at Peterborough United tomorrow, but Mulgrew admits no-one is getting carried away.

“It was always going to take us time to get used to the league and nothing gives you that experience other than playing in it,” he said.

“We’re on a good run at the minute, we’re not taking that for granted or getting complacent and I think that’s the most important thing that as much as it is a good run we don’t get complacent and all keep at the top of our game.

“We’re looking forward to the next game and take that as it comes.”
