MARCUS Antonsson feels it is important Rovers add more of a ruthless streak in front of goal to take advantage of the chances that come their way.

Rovers went in to the international break with wins over Rotherham United and Gillingham but a failure to put the game out of reach of the visitors brought unnecessary tension in the late stages.

Tony Mowbray has seen his side win four games 1-0 this season and their nine victories by that scoreline in 2017 is the most of any side in the EFL.

And while happy to collect the three points, the on-loan Leeds United striker says he and his team-mates must start to make the most of the chances being created.

He said: “We have put two good performances together but I still think we should have scored more goals in those games, with a bit more luck I could have scored four against Rotherham for sure.

“Against Gillingham I should have been on the scoresheet.

“As long as we win the games we’re happy but going forward we need to put the ball in the net because we will not get away with three points every game if we miss a lot of chances.”

Rovers managed at least 10 attempts on goal in the first half of each of their last two games but found the net just once on each occasion.

Away from home however, things have been much better, with Rovers collecting 13 of their 19 points on their travels and despite creating fewer chances, have scored at least once in each of their five games away from Ewood Park.

Antonsson hopes they can continue that run at Oldham this afternoon (3pm) but warned of the tough test ahead against the ever-improving Latics.

He added: “Every game in this league is so hard and you really need to be at your best every week, especially playing away from home.

“It’s always a bit different away from home and when you get your chances you have to take them.

“The intensity is good in this league, the teams here seem to be more hardworking.

“I still think we have a really good team, lots of individual quality and I don’t think we have seen the best of it yet, there is more to come and hopefully we can put that together soon.”

Antonsson is currently on a season-long loan deal from Leeds United, but says his full focus is on the year ahead at Ewood Park rather than concerning himself with matters across the Pennines.

“I know that they are following my games here and watching but nothing more than that,” he said.

“I have full focus here.

“I real like it here, like the team and the way we’re playing and I’m enjoying my football right now.”

The Swede netted three times for Rovers in September and will look to start October in similar fashion.

He has operated from a wide left role in the last two games, one he believes he can get goals from.

“I feel that I’m getting better and better all the time and feeling more comfortable,” the 26-year-old said.

“Hopefully I can continue to score, and score more in the games as well.

“It was a long time ago that I played out wide but it’s kind of a free role, not like I’m a winger who needs to stay out wide, I can go inside as well and play to my strengths of running in behind.

“I think I have showed that.

“As long as I’m on the pitch and can help the team then I’m happy.”
