ROVERS skipper Charlie Mulgrew says Scotland’s World Cup qualifier in Slovenia tonight will be among the biggest of his career.

Scotland will need to follow up Thursday’s win over Slovakia with three points in Ljubljana if they are to keep alive their hopes of finishing as runner-up in Group F.

Were they do that, then they would be in pole position to qualify for the play-offs in a bid to make next year’s finals in Russia.

Mulgrew is expected to make his sixth consecutive start for Gordon Strachan’s side who won 1-0 against Slovakia on Thursday at Hampden Park courtesy of a late Martin Skrtel own goal.

“It will be a hard game,” Mulgrew told Sky Sports.

“International matches are always difficult and this one away from home will be no different.

“But we're going to give it all we can to try and get a result.

“We've got our fate in our own hands. We knew coming in to these two matches we had to win the both of them and that is still our focus.

“Sunday's game will be up there with the biggest games I've ever played in.

“It's massive - but we will play the game and not the occasion. We won't spend too much time thinking about what the game means to us.

“Instead, we'll just play the game as it unfolds and hopefully we can do the business.”

Scotland won just one of their opening four qualifiers, leaving their qualification hopes in tatters.

But they have responded with 13 points from a possible 15 in 2017 to put themselves in with a chance of finishing as runners-up to England.

Mulgrew added: “Everyone kept believing and kept working.

“We didn't listen to all the negative things about us not getting to the play-offs.

“Now we need to keep believing as we go towards Sunday.”
