A POINT away from home at any level is a decent result, but Tony Mowbray’s comments after the game at Shrewsbury Town shows the standards he sets, writes Simon Garner.

He called the performance ‘unacceptable’, and when you look at the game on paper, although Shrewsbury have started the season well and are still unbeaten, this would still be a game that Rovers would have been targeting three points from.

Rovers have been a bit stop-start so far, they had that one good run but have really lacked consistency.

Finding consistency isn’t easy, but it is still very early in the season, we’re only eight games in and they are still in touching distance of the top six.

They have gone somewhat under the radar.  They started the season as red-hot favourites with most people to go straight back up and be in the top two right the way through the season.

That hasn’t been the case, but sometimes it can be better to go under the radar and they are not badly placed. But they have to become more consistent and I am sure they will.

They are now used to the division and what is expected from them.

They also need to improve their home form after two defeats already, and will be looking to start with three points against Rotherham United tonight.

Winning breeds confidence, and no matter what division you’re in, you need your home form to be strong.

Teams will raise their game when they come to Ewood, and won’t make it easy, but getting an early goal, as they did against MK Dons, would really help Rovers.

It would give the crowd an early lift and stop any doubts creeping in, so a goal in the first 10 or 15 minutes is important.

They also have a very good record in games in which they have taken the lead.

The fans will be calling for Harry Chapman to be included from the start after doing well when coming off the bench, but as with a lot of young players, he might not yet be ready for the physicality that comes with playing 90 minutes.

He also might not be as effective, as he will get kicked a lot more, and sometimes it is good to have a player who can make an impact off the bench. Mowbray will want to be defensively sound to start with and bringing Chapman off the bench with 20 minutes to go to make an impact is a good option.
