RYAN Nyambe could feature for Rovers’ Under-23s on Friday as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury.

Nyambe hasn’t played for the first team since the Checkatrade Trophy win over Stoke City Under-21s on August 29.

That was his first game since the 3-1 home defeat to August 12 against Doncaster Rovers, but Tony Mowbray is hoping the full-back will soon be back in action.

He could play for the Under-23s in their Premier League Cup clash with Cardiff City at Leyland on Friday.

Rekeem Harper (hip flexor) and Craig Conway (hip) remain sidelined, while Ben Gladwin (groin) has been added to the injury list which already includes Darragh Lenihan and Scott Wharton (both ankle).

“The only one that could potentially be available is Ryan Nyambe, he has been on the grass for the last few days,” the boss said when asked for an injury update.

“I would think he needs a game mind you.

“There is a chance that he could play for the Under-23s on Friday.

“We are short of numbers, and the injuries have left us a bit short.

“Ben Gladwin picked up a thigh strain in training.

“We’re hoping it’s just a precaution and that he would be ready in a week to 10 days after that has settled down.

“It’s not a serious injury, but it’s unfortunate for him.

“He is a player that I was talking about when I said the players who had not had many minutes were still showing a fantastic application in training, staying positive and working hard.

“I am sure his opportunity will be just around the corner, if it is not the weekend then it might be the Checkatrade Trophy game, or after the international break.”
