TONY Mowbray felt Rovers lacked ‘the guile’ to break down AFC Wimbledon on a frustrating afternoon at Ewood Park.

Kwesi Appiah scored the only goal of the game 16 minutes in, with the Dons holding on for the three points as Rovers’ winning run came to an end.

Bradley Dack went close in the second half, as his header was saved on the line, but Rovers struggled to create too many clear-cut chances.

“We're really disappointed. We have to be better than that,” Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“I make no excuses sitting here now, let’s give Wimbledon some credit for the way they defended.

“I felt after the first five minutes that we dropped off the intensity and that allowed them to score a goal.

“I will go away and analyse myself – maybe we should have made some changes.

“But there is a frustration at not being able to score a goal at home, against Wimbledon who had won one out of seven.

“It’s frustrating for us.”

Mowbray sent on Danny Graham, Bradley Dack and Harry Chapman in a bid to turn the game, but that failed to spark Rovers in to life.

“We should have got it wider more,” Mowbray

“We changed the formation a bit, with Bradley playing off Danny and Dominic (Samuel) and Harry out wide, and that’s where the ball needed to go more.

“We got a bit frustrated really.

“We put a lot of effort in to the game, we banged on their door but couldn't get in. It was just a frustrating day for us.

“I said to the players in there that we didn't have the guile to break them down and to score a goal. I think if we'd have got one, we might have got a few. So we are left disappointed.

“Credit to them, they dug in, they made life difficult and they scored a goal and held onto it.

“It is frustrating for us that we didn't have the necessary tools to get something out of the day.”
