BLACKBURN Rovers have signed striker Dominic Samuel from Championship side Reading for an undisclosed fee.

The striker has made the move to Ewood Park on a three year deal and will reunite himself with head coach Tony Mowbray.

Rovers have beaten off competition from Championship pair Barnsley, and Ipswich, where Samuel finished last season on loan, to land the striker who netted seven times during a spell on loan at Gillingham in 2015/16.

The fee is understood to be in the region of £500,000 and the striker has signed a contract until 2020.

Samuel has previously worked with Rovers boss Mowbray during their time together at Coventry at the end of the 2014/15 season.

He leaves Reading having made just six starts for the club, scoring twice, the last of which came in a 3-2 win at Ewood Park in December.

Samuel – who scored twice in three appearances for England Under-19s – had a year left to run on his deal with Reading.

Mowbray has been working hard to add more mobility to his forward line, as he looks to add competition to last season’s top scorer Danny Graham.

He had hoped that Samuel would have signed in time to join up with Rovers for last week’s pre-season training camp.

But Mowbray has been rewarded for his patience by agreeing a deal to bring the striker to East Lancashire.

Samuel becomes the club’s fifth summer signing, following midfield quartet Peter Whittingham, Richie Smallwood, Bradley Dack and Ben Gladwin through the Ewood arrivals door.

He is expected to join up with his team-mates tomorrow.
