BEN Gladwin admits speaking to head coach Tony Mowbray helped make up his mind that Blackburn Rovers was the right move for him.

Gladwin became Rovers’ fourth summer signing, joining from QPR for an undisclosed fee after agreeing a two year deal.

The 25-year-old endured a stop-start two years with the Championship side, but will be hoping to recapture the form that earned him a £1.5m move to the Rs in 2015.

And Gladwin believes Mowbray’s philosophy will help bring the best out of him.

“I’m delighted,” he said of finalising his Rovers move.

“It’s obviously a huge football club – you feel the sheer size of it as soon as you walk into the training ground.

“I think as soon as I met the manager I got a great feeling about it.

“He’s a good guy, he’s a football man, he loves to play football, so the way he speaks about the game it matches a lot of my beliefs and what I like to do, so hopefully it will go well.”

Gladwin follows Peter Whittingham, Richie Smallwood and Bradley Dack through the Ewood Park arrivals door, and becomes the fourth midfield addition, so far this summer.

He caught the eye for Swindon during their run to the League One play-off final in 2014/15, scoring 11 goals, including a brace in the semi-final success over Sheffield United.

That form alerted Championship side QPR, but he has found life tougher since, having three separate loan spells at Swindon Town, and one at Bristol City, and will be looking to recapture his best form at Rovers.

Gladwin made 35 appearances in all for the Loftus Road side but is looking forward to a fresh challenge in East Lancashire.

He added: “I had a good time at QPR, but I never really got going.

“It would have been nice for everything to have worked out there, but it’s time for a fresh start and I’m really looking forward to it.

“It’s a new chapter for me, something a little bit different, coming up north, so I’m really excited to meet my new team-mates and get started.”

Gladwin will join up with his new team-mates for the first time at Brockhall tomorrow as pre-season begins in earnest.
