BLACKBURN Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has completed his backroom staff reshuffle at Ewood Park by naming David Lowe as first team coach, while David Dunn will return to his role with the club’s Under-23s.

Lowe was promoted from his job at the Academy following the sacking of Owen Coyle in February and worked alongside Mowbray for the remainder of last season.

Dunn also joined the first-team staff for the final months of Rovers’ 2016-17 campaign but will return to work alongside Under-23 boss Damien Johnson next term.

Mowbray praised the impact both had on the first team but, with Mark Venus having joined the club as assistant manager, felt retaining Lowe gave him the right blend of characters.

He said: “David Lowe will be appointed as first team coach and David Dunn will go back to his job helping Damien Johnson with the Under-23s.

“It’s not a reflection on either guy (Lowe or Dunn), it is simply the balance I wanted with Mark coming in.”

And the Rovers boss said both Lowe and Dunn had crucial roles to play at Rovers moving forward.

“I enjoyed the period of time I worked with Dunny and David and I was impressed with both of them,” Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“They are both still integral to the club and the way I work is with an open door policy, we are always discussing football and it is important that I can do that with them both.

“I came in pretty cold last season and I was very impressed with the way they acquitted themselves and we have just looked at the balance of the staff and decided to go down this path with the characters we have.

“Dunny is on a journey towards where he wants to go in the game and I know he enjoyed his time working with me at the end of last season save for the ultimate end.

“Dunny still has an important part to play at this club.”
