MARK Venus says Blackburn Rovers can expect to see some new signings in the coming days as he and Ewood boss Tony Mowbray begin to shape their squad.

The new Rovers No.2 only joined the club on Friday but said the hard work has already started to ensure Rovers can recruit the right players for a promotion push next season.

He said: "Everyone is working very hard behind the scenes and hopefully we should be able to get a couple of signings over the line soon and give everybody a taste of where we want to be.

"I think it's imperative we get the right players in over the summer.

"Whoever the manager is and however he works, you need the right tools to work with.

"I think that process has already started."

Venus has linked up with Mowbray for the fifth time in his coaching career having previously worked alongside the 53-year-old at Hibs, Celtic Middlesbrough and Coventry.

The pair have recent League One experience having been with the Sky Blues at the start of last season and Venus became caretaker boss at the Ricoh Arena after Mowbray resigned in September last year.

And the former Wolves and Ipswich defender said he was excited by the challenge of brining the right players to Rovers to hit the ground running come August.

"At the moment, I'm really looking forward to trying to attract the right players to come to the football club to help us get the job done that we know we have to do," Venus told Rovers' official website.

Venus will meet the Rovers squad for the first time when the players return to Brockhall for pre-season training at the end of the month.
