ROVERS defender Charlie Mulgrew has been named in the Scotland squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against England.

Mulgrew has been named in Gordon Strachan’s squad of 29 for the World Cup clash against Gareth Southgate’s men on June 10 at Hampden Park.

The 31-year-old will be hoping to add to his 26 caps against England, having played 90 minutes in both of Scotland’s fixtures in March.

He started the friendly draw with Canada, and the last gasp win over Slovenia on March 26 which kept alive the Scots' hopes of reaching the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

Scotland are fourth in the Group F table, two points off second-placed Slovakia, while England leading the way with 13 points from their five games.

The March games were Mulgrew’s first in a Scotland shirt since June 2016, and was helped by the injury picked up to former Rovers skipper Grant Hanley.

Another injury sustained by Hanley last month has ept him out of this latest squad, while Jordan Rhodes isn’t included, but there is a place for ex-Rovers midfielder Tom Cairney.

Mulgrew played 30 times for Rovers in his debut season at Ewood Park after arriving on deadline day last summer having left Celtic.

He scored three times, including a stunning free-kick in the final day win at Brentford, but couldn’t help the club stave off relegation.

There were fears that an ankle injury sustained at Reading on April 4 would end Mulgrew’s season, and his hopes of playing against England.

But he made a quicker than expected recovery, playing in Rovers’ last three games, and his form for Rovers has seen him named in Strachan’s squad.
