DANNY Graham says he doesn’t regret his decision to return to Rovers but admits he was left devastated by the club’s relegation to League One.

Graham enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Ewood Park at the end of the 2015/16 season, scoring seven goals in 18 games. He made a permanent move to the club last summer, signing a two-year deal, and despite being hampered by injuries, topped the club’s scoring charts with 13 goals.

The 31-year-old had interest from a number of clubs, but chose to return to Ewood Park and says the players are fully focussed on preparing for life in League One next season.

“I was always going to come back,” Graham told the Lancashire Telegraph of his Rovers return.

“There was a few interested in me but I felt at home here when I came in on loan and I didn’t want to change that.”

On this season’s relegation Graham added: “Everyone is devastated, we let the fans down, we have underperformed as a group.

“We have to go again in pre-season now.”

Graham was locked in a battle to be Rovers’ top scorer for much of the season with Southampton loanee Sam Gallagher.

Gallagher, who has interested a number of clubs this calendar year, returned to St Mary’s having scored 12 goals in his 47 appearances.

The 21-year-old admitted relegation had left something of a cloud over his time in East Lancashire, but felt he had improved as a player during his season-long loan.

And his strike partner Graham praised the efforts of the Saints striker who he believes is set for a bright future in the game.

“I think he’s done incredibly well,” said Graham of Gallagher.

“For a young lad to come in on loan, after a difficult time at MK Dons where he didn’t score, but he came in and hit the ground running.

“He’s willing to learn and he’s improved every week and scored some vital goals that gave us a fighting chance.

“He will have a big future in the game, I have no doubt about that.

“He’s always in the gym, doing extra work, wanting to learn and that’s a good thing to have as a 21-year-old.”
