TONY Mowbray hopes Blackburn Rovers’ point at Burton Albion can be a building block for them to take forward.

Rovers were held to a 1-1 draw at the Pirelli Stadium as despite taking the lead through a Matty Palmer own goal, Marvin Sordell levelled things up nine minutes after the break.

The visitors were totally dominant in the first-half, but the second half was much more even as both sides had chances to win it.

The point leaves Rovers still two points from safety going in to a run of three consecutive home games, starting with Derby County on Tuesday.

The Rovers head coach said: “For 45 minutes it was a pretty impressive performance and I thought they took on board fantastically well what we had worked on in one training session.

“They listened very well to what we asked, took it on board, and first half we played how we would have want them to have played.

“Credit to Burton and Nigel (Clough) in the second half for changing the way they played and it took a while for us to adapt to it.  I don’t think that was the reason they scored the equaliser.

“You can’t dominate a game for 90 minutes, but we dominated for large parts tonight and I was slightly disappointed not to get all three points.

“But it’s a start for us, a building block, and we will only get better as we go on.

“I learned a lot about all of them.

“The goal they scored was a decent goal, I don’t think there was much we could have done about it, other than maybe a few positional things.

“I can’t stand here and criticise any of them tonight, they gave everything, and it was important that we didn’t lose.

“That would have put Burton maybe out of sight, they’re still a side within our sights and with our games in hand and three consecutive home games we have a great chance to pick up some points and bring a lot of teams in to the mix.”

Rovers were backed by a terrific away following, and Mowbray was delighted with the response from the travelling fans at the Pirelli Stadium.

He added: “The boys mentioned it afterwards in the dressing room about how fantastic the supporters were.

“It took me aback a bit when I came out of the tunnel really and I thank everyone that jumped in their car and drove down to Burton to support Rovers and hopefully we can find victories along the way for them and make them proud of their football team again and be proud to support Blackburn Rovers.”
