OWEN Coyle has dismissed reports in Poland that Blackburn Rovers striker Anthony Stokes is set for a move to Jagiellonia Bialystok.

Stokes has been linked with a move to former table-toppers Jagiellonia, with the Polish transfer window open until February 28.

The Irish striker hasn’t made a league start for Rovers since August, and hasn’t been included in the last three matchday squads following the arrival of Lucas Joao from Sheffield Wednesday and Marvin Emnes’ return from Swansea City.

The 28-year-old has played, and scored, for the Under-23s on his two outings for Damien Johnson’s side this year, but he could return to the first-team matchday squad at Hillsborough this evening with Joao unavailable to feature against his parent club.

Reports in Poland have stated that Jagiellonia are lining up a move for Stokes having missed out on a swoop for fellow countryman Cillian Sheridan who is at Cypriot club Omonia.

But Coyle said of a potential move: “I can only imagine it’s speculation.

“There’s certainly been no dialogue with anyone regarding Anthony going to Poland or otherwise.”

Stokes had also been linked with a deadline day move to former side Hibernian.
