BLACKBURN Rovers are still awaiting a decision on whether Celtic defender Efe Ambrose will be granted a work permit ahead of a potential loan move to Ewood Park.

The Football Association and Home Office are yet to decide whether a move for the 28-year-old will be sanctioned.

Rovers have presented their case on why they feel the 51 times capped Nigerian international should be clear to move to East Lancashire.

The two clubs agreed terms on the move on deadline day but, more than a week on, there is still no timescale of when the issue will be resolved.

Ambrose watched the game against Leeds on February 1 from the stands, but a potential move remains very much in the balance, with Rovers also now casting their eye over the free-agent market in a bid to strengthen their squad ahead of the crucial run-in.

Speaking of Ambrose last week, manager Owen Coyle said: “That’s an issue regarding the work permit.

“For me, it’s one or two things – you’re either eligible or you’re not.

“We had a conversation with Celtic and we were led to believe from them that everything should be ok.

“Going from one governing body, the SFA, to the FA, there’s different criteria for work permits in different countries."
