The 23-year-old has spent the first half of this season on loan at League Two side Accrington Stanley making 25 appearances and scoring one goal for the Reds.

But the Irishman has struggled to make a breakthrough at Ewood Park having made just two starts in four and a half years with Rovers.

He has spent time on loan at Southport, Barnsley, Rochdale and Bury and is now free to join another club in the January transfer window.

It is understood Stanley retain an interest in the winger but at this stage no deal is imminent.

Rovers manager Owen Coyle told the Lancashire Telegraph last week that the development of Connor Mahoney, himself a former Stanley player, is one of the reasons why O’Sullivan has been unable to secure a spot in his first team picture.

Mahoney has been a regular in Rovers’ recent matchday squads and Rovers have turned down loan offers for the 19-year-old from several clubs.
