JACK Doyle says his new Blackburn Rovers deal presents him with a huge opportunity to push for a first-team call.

The 19-year-old left-back signed a new contract which runs until 2019 this week as he looks to continue his development at the club he joined aged 10.

Doyle has been a regular for Damien Johnson’s under-23s side this season, playing in two of Rovers’ three Checkatrade Trophy fixtures, while he was an unused substitute for the first-team in EFL Cup games against Crewe Alexandra and Leeds United.

“I’m delighted to have got it signed and hopefully I can now kick on,” Doyle said of his new deal.

“I want to keep working hard and see where that takes me.

“It was a no brainer (to sign). Once I heard that I was going to be offered it I was ready to take it with both hands.

“It’s a huge opportunity for me and I will keep on driving forward.

“I’ve been here the last nine or 10 years and I hope to be here for many more. I feel part of this football club, it feels like home and I want to keep repaying the club for what they have done for me.”

When asked about his experiences as part of the matchday squad Doyle, speaking to Rovers’ official website, added: “It was great and I loved every minute of it.

“It was great to see the atmosphere at the stadium and hopefully now I can keep knocking on the door and see if it can happen again in the near future.

“My target at the start of the season was to get as fit as I could and hopefully impress the new manager and luckily I went away with the first-team to Austria in pre-season and I want to keep progressing.”
