On that occasion, despite being without some of their regular first-team players, Rovers still managed to chalk up yet another victory courtesy of goals from Chris Sutton, captain Tim Sherwood, and Alan Shearer.

However, they had to be grateful to some excellent goalkeeping from Tim Flowers, who kept in the game with some fine goalkeeping.

Sutton scored his 15th of the season early on to put Rovers in front, only for Claus Thomsen to level for the hosts.

It looked like Ipswich would be the team to score the game’s third goal, only for Sherwood to restore Rovers’ lead with his first of the season just before the break.

And Shearer was to get in on the act in the second half, pouncing on the loose ball after the goalkeeper could only parry a Sutton header.
