CRAIG Conway and Corry Evans are both rated doubtful for Blackburn Rovers’ trip to Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Conway missed the FA Cup win at QPR last weekend with a hamstring injury picked up in the 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on January 2.

Scans revealed a slight tear in the hamstring, though manager Owen Coyle had hoped to have the 31-year-old available for the trip to Portman Road.

However, it is looking more likely that Conway will return for the home game with Birmingham City at Ewood Park next weekend.

Midfielder Evans also missed out at QPR as Rovers continue to monitor his on-going groin injury, which is likely to see be unavailable at Ipswich Town.

Coyle said: “Both are major doubts.

“Craig Conway has responded well to his work on the grass with the medical team, but the game at Ipswich is likely to come too soon for his hamstring.

“We could throw him back in but then you risk him being out for four to six weeks and we need him for the big games that we have coming up.

“Corry Evans’ injury is one that we need to get to the bottom of.

“The quality player that he is, we want him to play 40 games a season and we need to find a way of getting him fit for the long-term.

“We want him to be fit for the games we have to come so the medical staff will look closely at that, but he is a big doubt.”

Rovers will welcome back Darragh Lenihan from a three-game ban after his red card in the Boxing Day defeat at Barnsley, and Marvin Emnes, who was cup-tied at QPR.

However, both will face a fight on their hands to return to the starting line-up at Portman Road as Rovers go in search of a third straight win at the start of 2017.

Jason Steele is expected to return in goal, after David Raya took the gloves in the FA Cup, while Conway’s injury is likely to see a first league start for the opening day for Elliott Bennett who impressed at QPR.
