OWEN Coyle revealed he has players lined up to add to his Blackburn Rovers squad if he’s given the necessary funding this month.

The transfer window re-opened on Sunday, with Coyle admitting he isn’t yet in a position to bring players in. The Ewood chief remains in talks with owners, the Venky’s, over what money will be made available to strengthen his squad.

Coyle’s hopes of raising cash for transfers this month could be helped by reports surfacing yesterday that former Rovers boss Paul Lambert is ready to offer £1million to take Ben Marshall to Wolves.

The wide man is out of contract in the summer and a January departure could help Coyle strengthen his squad this month in a bid to climb out of the Championship relegation zone.

Coyle is keen to extend the stay of Swansea loanee Marvin Emnes, if the two clubs can agree to a financial package in line with the current deal which expires after next weekend’s league game at Ipswich Town.

And the Rovers boss has further targets in his sights.

He said: “I have in mind two or three that I could get in very quickly if we’re in a position to press the button on them,” Coyle said.

“I have two or three players that I would love to add to this club, hopefully we can get to a point of pressing the button on them moving forward.

“It won’t be through lack of effort on our part that’s for sure.”

Coyle made 12 signings in the summer, though six of those were on loan, with Derrick Williams the only permanent addition to command a transfer fee.

And as Coyle looks to move Rovers out of the Championship relegation zone he says the right level of investment would also help him achieve his long-term aim of getting Rovers back challenging at the right end of the table.

He added: “We know that we will get this club to a position of safety and then look for the right investment to get to where we want to be.

“We all want to get this club back to where we feel it should be and that’s fighting to get back in to the best league in the world which everyone craves.

“There’s different ways of doing that, you can do that with huge finances and going out and spending or the other way is through a bit of time and care.

“We have shown that we have been successful at doing that before and we certainly believe we can do it again, but at certain times you need help with that.”

Martin Samuelsen has already had his loan spell cut short as he returned to West Ham in November, while Stephen Hendrie is also expected to return to the Hammers.

Fellow loanee Jack Byrne hasn’t started a game for Rovers since August, and Coyle added: “I have had dialogue with Manchester City over Jack Byrne who we know is a very talented player.

“He will have a terrific career but I think it’s important Jack gets some game-time and he’s not had that of late.

“To be fair he has been ill over Christmas. The likelihood is that Jack will return to Manchester City and get some game-time, whether that be with another loan spell or in the youth teams.

“Martin Samuelsen leaving as well has obviously freed up some finance that we will look to use.”
