ROVERS ace Ben Marshall is a January transfer target for former Ewood boss Paul Lambert at Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to reports in the West Midlands.

Marshall, who is out of contract in the summer, has previously been linked with a move to Molineux as recently as the summer when Kenny Jackett was in charge.

Wolves, backed by Chinese investment group Fosun International, are looking to spend in January, with 25-year-old Marshall said to be on a wish-list drawn up by Lambert, who worked with the former Leicester City man during his spell as Rovers boss last season, and the club’s Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell.

Talks over a new deal for Marshall at Rovers appear to have ground to a halt, with Ewood manager Owen Coyle admitting he wasn’t expecting an answer from the player’s representative until after January.

However, any move in January would be dependent on the two sides agreeing a fee for Marshall, with Rovers seeking around £1.5million for his services.

Marshall has made 138 appearances for Rovers since joining in the summer of 2013 for an undisclosed fee on a four year contract.

He was the subject of interest from a number Championship rivals last summer, and turned down Rovers’ initial contract offer in August before the club offered him an improved deal which remains unsigned.

Wolves are thought to be keen on freshening up their squad in January, with both incomings and outgoings expected, as they look to improve on their current position of 18th in the Championship table.

This will be Lambert’s first transfer window at the club since taking charge from Walter Zenga who was in charge for just 14 games over the course of 87 days.
