BLACKBURN Rovers boss Owen Coyle wants to sign on-loan star Marvin Emnes on a permanent basis – as he plots a way for Venky’s to give him more backing in the market.

Emnes has scored three goals and set-up a further three following his arrival at Ewood Park on the final day of the transfer window.

The in-form forward, who also had an effort controversially ruled out in the home loss to Sheffield Wednesday, was the 12th of 13 signings made by Coyle since taking over the Rovers reins.

Five others were also on loan, seven were free transfers, with only one, the £250,000 capture of left-back Derrick Williams, being for a fee.

But Coyle, who saw centre-backs Grant Hanley and Shane Duffy sold for a combined £10m, remains hopeful the club’s owners will release more funds.

He believes Venky’s will loosen the purse strings providing he proves he can stabilise Rovers and make them competitive on a reduced budget.

Coyle, whose third-from-bottom side resume their Championship programme at home to Ipswich Town a week today, said: “This was always going to be a tough job. If truth be told it was probably the toughest job going in many respects.

“We have to make sure every day we’re working hard, we’re focused, we’re implementing our ideas on the training ground and then bringing that to the games, and I think we’re starting to do that.

“It’s like anything else, when you want to achieve good things in a team, it does not happen overnight.

“It takes time, it takes repetition, it takes hard work, and I think we have all those attributes at the club.

“We want to bring a stability, a platform to the club; a club which, team wise, each year has been slightly further down.

“We knew financially it was going to be tough as well, we knew that from the outset.

“But the important thing for us is we bring that stability and that platform, because to my mind, if we are able to do and show that, I would hope we then get that real push to make a real go of things.

“If we do, I think we can get this club back to where we all want it to be.

“It won’t be overnight, it will take time, but if we can be seen to be showing those foundations, then it doesn’t have to be huge (money), it’s just has to be a good bit of backing at the right time.

“If we got that I really think we could progress this club to where we want it to be.”

Emnes’ loan from Swansea City runs out on January 15.

But Coyle admits he is already looking to next summer when the 28-year-old is set to be out of contract.

“Marvin is one I would like to sign,” said Coyle.

“He comes out of contract next year and he’s one I’ve always been a big admirer of for a number of years.

“Again the contacts I used at Swansea I got him in for an absolute song in comparison to what he earns.

“There’s a number of them (loan players) I’d love to bring to the club permanently.

“It’s always difficult as the better they do the harder it is to get them permanently.

“But it won’t be for a lack of trying. We want that quality of player who can grow at the club.”

A trio of senior Rovers players are set to be in World Cup qualifying action for their countries today.

Midfielder Corry Evans is in the Northern Ireland squad for their home clash with San Marino while on-loan winger Martin Samuelsen has travelled with Norway, who are also in Group C, for their match in Azerbaijan.

Defender Gordon Greer is part of the Scotland party for their Group F encounter at home to Lithuania.
