CAPTAIN Jason Lowe insists Blackburn Rovers have the ‘quality’ to get out of relegation trouble.

Rovers are third-from-bottom in the Championship after losing seven of their opening 11 games.

Lowe admits they are going through a ‘difficult period’ and that there was ‘no excuse’ for their performances in the first two matches of the campaign.

But he believes Rovers have been in every game since then and that they can get on the right side of the fine margins he feels are deciding their matches.

Lowe said: “It’s a difficult period. We just have to regroup, get back to the drawing board, and the good thing about this game is you get another chance.

“We have to put three points on the board as soon as possible. It’s never nice when you’re getting beat. It’s a horrible feeling.

“You have to regroup and go again in the next game. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves because it’s only us who are going to get us back up that table.

“Every game we’ve played since the Wigan game we’ve been well within and been there to pick up points.

“It’s frustrating we’re not getting on the right side of it but I’m confident with the quality we’ve got in the dressing room we can turn it around.”

Rovers went into the second international break of the season on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City.

Stephen Gleeson’s winning goal, which came moments after Marvin Emnes was denied, was a result of a poor pass and tracking.

And Lowe said: “It was another game I felt we were well within. We didn’t play as well as we did in the first half but their keeper made a good save from Marvin before they scored and I felt we probably had the majority of the pressure, if you look at the 90 minutes.

“But we came out of it with a defeat and the scoreline at the end of the day is the important statistic – and we’re on the wrong side of them at the minute.

“It’s down to us to turn them around and I’m confident with the quality we have in the dressing room we can do that.

“We’re in a lot of games. People aren’t carving us open. At the minute one lapse of concentration we seem to be getting punished. We just need to tighten up on a couple of things and be ruthless at the other end and I’m sure we will be fine.”

The five league defeats Rovers have suffered since the 4-1 and 3-0 beatings by Norwich City and Wigan have been by one goal.

And Lowe added: “We started really poorly and there was no excuse for that.

“We needed to regroup and do something about it and I think we have tightened it up a little bit. Of course teams will have opportunities at times within games but we know we can create and score goals.

“At the minute it seems like they’re creating one chance and taking it. It was a good finish from the lad (at Birmingham) but again when you look back we could have avoided it.

“We just have to keep going. It’s a long season and I’m sure the rub of the green will happen for us.”
