GORDON Greer has called on Blackburn Rovers to go into the international break on a high.

Rovers saw their mini winning run come to an end on Tuesday when they lost 1-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

But should they bounce back with victory at in-form Birmingham City tomorrow they would make it nine points from the last 12.

And Greer reckons that would be a good return after a ‘very up and down’ start to the campaign.

The veteran centre-back, who will join up with the Scotland squad after the trip to St Andrew’s, said: “It’s great to go into the international break on the back of three points.

“We’re going there to try and win the game and if we do that we’ll be sitting with nine points out of 12.

“It’s not going to be easy. Birmingham have done well in the last couple of seasons. It’s going to be a tough game, like every game is in the Championship.

“But we’ve got a lot of good players here and, on our day, we’ve shown we can cause teams a lot of problems.

“Hopefully we can do that on Saturday and go into the break with a nice result.”

Rovers slipped back into the bottom three after the defeat to the Owls.

But after losing five and drawing two of their opening seven games, Greer reckons they are improving.

The 35-year-old, one of 12 summer signings made by Rovers boss Owen Coyle, said: “It’s been very up and down.

“At the start of the season we had a few bad defeats, picked up but never got the results we deserved, but now we’re on the back of a couple wins and a defeat.

“It’s the Championship, it’s relentless at times, but we’re playing a lot better now, we’re in games, so we’ve got a good chance of getting the three points on Saturday.

“It was difficult for the management and the staff to get 12 new players together and get them all doing what they want them to do. There were teething problems at the start.

“But as time has gone we’re looking a much better unit and we’re causing teams problems now. We’re looking forward to kicking on for the rest of the season.”

Midfielder Corry Evans, with Northern Ireland, and on-loan winger Martin Samuelsen, with Norway, have also been called up by their countries for next month’s World Cup qualifiers double header.
