BLACKBURN Rovers head to Derby County tomorrow with returning-to-form star Ben Marshall hoping their first league victory will spark their Championship season into life.

Rovers won 4-2 at home to fellow strugglers Rotherham United last Saturday to end their seven-game winless start and move off the bottom of the standings.

They now make their way to an expensively assembled Derby side also at the wrong of the table after a surprisingly poor opening to the campaign.

And Marshall, who scored his first goal of the season in the convincing success over Rotherham, said: “I know the results haven’t been going our way but I felt like the first win was coming.

“We managed to get some goals and hopefully we can kick on now.

“I think we deserved it. We passed it well, created more chances and took the goals well. Maybe we could have stopped them from scoring the second, and the first, but we scored four and that’s the main thing.”

Marshall was joined on the scoresheet by new on-loan strike partnership Sam Gallagher and Marvin Emnes.

Southampton starlet Gallagher rounded off the scoring with his third goal for the club after Emnes, a transfer deadline day arrival from Swansea City, netted for the second successive league game.

And Marshall said: “I thought Sammy and Marvin up there worked well together. They were brilliant.

“When Sammy first came in you could see he was a good player. He’s a young lad, he’s got a good turn of pace, he can head the ball, he’s good with his feet, and he should be kicking on when he goes back to Southampton at the end of his loan because he’s got the ability to do that.

“And we all know what Marvin’s about. He’s done it for most of his career. And he looked different class.”
