WHAT to expect from Blackburn Rovers on transfer deadline day? Well, if Owen Coyle gets his way it will be a productive one.

Rovers boss Coyle may have brought in 10 signings since taking over the Ewood Park reins three months ago.

But he has made it clear he would like to make further additions before the window closes this evening.

Ten first-team players have left the club since the end of last season including captain Grant Hanley and his centre-back partner Shane Duffy.

The squad is numerically no stronger now than it was in May.

And the added complication is the fact that this is the first season in which English Football League clubs will not be able to make use of the emergency loan window.

That means no matter what injuries, suspensions or loss of form may occur after tonight, you are stuck with the same set of players until January 1.

And that is why Coyle will be working right until the clock strikes 11pm to make sure he has many bases covered as possible.

He has certainly been looking for another defender.

Attempts to sign Abdoul Ba and Reece Burke may have hit a brick wall but if he could bring in another centre-back, with the ability to step straight into his starting XI if required, he would.

Do not rule out the possibility, either, of a midfielder who can sit, protect and provide leadership in front of what is a new-look back four.

Scotland international Charlie Mulgrew, who is a free agent after turning down a new contract from Celtic, ticks a lot of boxes, then.

He can play in the centre of midfield and in defence, as well as at left-back.

And what about a right-back, another attacker, and even a third goalkeeper to provide competition for Jason Steele and David Raya?

On the flipside Coyle will be wary of losing any more key players.

Ben Marshall has rejected the club’s offer of a new deal and, with less than 12 months remaining on his current contract, Rovers will have to consider any offers that are made today.

But the big question is will Coyle be given funds to reinvest?

Out of the £10m recouped for Hanley and Duffy, he has so far spent £250,000 on Derrick Williams.

And, if Venky’s do loosen the purse strings, will Coyle have enough time to do the business he wants?

All will become clear by 11pm tonight.
