BLACKBURN Rovers boss Owen Coyle expects to be busy on transfer deadline day – as he praises the impact of his latest summer signings.

Centre-back Tommie Hoban and left-back Derrick Williams impressed their new manager in Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to Fulham.

And Coyle is determined to ensure the duo are not the last new faces through the Ewood Park door before the summer transfer window shuts at 11pm this evening.

Rovers were last night working on at least two potential deals as they attempt to bolster their squad after a winless start to the Championship season.

And Coyle is hoping one of the recruits he is trying to make today is paid for with some of the proceeds of the £4.5m sale of Shane Duffy to Brighton & Hove Albion.

He said: “I do expect to be busy because I want to add players to the squad.

“We’ve worked very hard and brought some terrific young loan players in who will get better as we go and will grow.

“We’ve brought in Derrick Williams, that’s the cash investment we made, and we’ve brought in Bosmans (free transfers) because we had to add to the squad.

“But I think now is the time to add one or two in terms of purchases.

“It may be they are ready to play in the Championship, like a Ben Marshall, with the scope to grow and get better.

“But they’ve got to be ready-made to help the team as well as grow and become real assets for the football club.”

After four free transfers and five season-long loans Coyle paid Championship rivals Bristol City £250,000 for Williams.

Williams made his debut against Fulham alongside Hoban who, after joining on loan from Watford, produced a man-of-the-match performance.

And Coyle said: “I thought both acquitted themselves really well.

“Hoban comes with a tremendous pedigree. He’s already been promoted from the Championship with Watford.

“He’s young, he’s athletic, he looks good on the ball and the more he plays with the players the better he will be.

“Derrick Williams slotted in like he’d been here all his career. He did very well in that position.

“He’s got a good physique about him and he did very well against some quick and pacy players.

“For the most part I thought we looked very secure and those two will help the group moving forward.”

Wes Brown continues to train with Rovers following his release from Sunderland at the end of last season.

The former Manchester United and England defender played his first full 90 minutes for the club in the under-23s’ 1-0 Premier League 2 win at Stoke City on Saturday.

But he was unable to feature in last night’s Checkatrade Trophy opener at Fleetwood Town as he is not registered with the cub.

As a free agent Brown would be able to sign for Rovers outside of the transfer window.
