BLACKBURN Rovers centre-back Shane Duffy has signed for Championship rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 24-year-old has penned a four-year contract with the Seagulls after they had an undisclosed, club record offer accepted by Rovers.
Duffy made 69 appearances at Ewood Park, scoring seven goals, including last season’s goal of the season winner for his strike at Brentford, after joining from Everton in September 2014.
The Republic of Ireland international was in the final 12 months of his Rovers contract and, after seeing Brighton’s initial bids rejected, he turned down the club’s offer of a new deal.
Seagulls manager Chris Hughton said: “I’m delighted that our perseverance has finally paid off and we’ve completed the signing of Shane. He’s an excellent addition for us.
“He has a lot of experience for his age, having played in the Premier League, Championship, Europa League and international football for Ireland.
“He’s a very good defender and now gives me four quality, senior options for the two central defensive positions.”
