BLACKBURN Rovers boss Owen Coyle admits he would have liked a home draw in the EFL Cup third round.

But he believes a trip to Championship rivals Leeds United offers a great opportunity for the club to progress to the last 16 of the competition for the first time since 2011.

Rovers set up the Elland Road encounter with a 4-3 extra-time second-round win at home to Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday.

And Coyle, whose side return to league action on Saturday at home to Fulham, said: “Like any cup draw you want a home draw.

“But when you don’t get one you look for a tie which is achievable in terms of winning – and I think it’s an achievable tie.

“Leeds will feel the same and if you get into the last 16 then it’s all to play for.

“I’ve been very fortunate in my career as a player, coach and manager that I’ve had some terrific cup runs – and I’d love another one.

“Everybody loves winning games, I love the magic of the cup, and to do that we’re going to have to win a tough game at Elland Road. The atmosphere will be great.

“When it comes around we’ll look forward to it but for now Fulham at home on Saturday is our priority.

“We’ll be ready to go and get those points we felt we should have got against Burton Albion and look to kick on from there.”

The clash with Leeds will take place in the week beginning September 20.

It means Rovers will make back-to-back midweek trips to their Roses rivals as the clubs will meet first at Elland Road in the Championship on Tuesday, September 13.
