BLACKBURN Rovers boss Owen Coyle has given his blessing for Corry Evans to go on international duty.

Evans has been included in the Northern Ireland squad for their Euro 2018 World Cup qualifier against Czech Republic despite not featuring for Rovers this season.

The midfielder has played only 14 minutes of the pre-season friendly with Blackpool after coming back from Euro 2016 with a groin injury.

But Coyle will give the midfielder to go-ahead to join up with Northern Ireland after returning to training this week.

However a decision over Adam Henley, who has been called-up by Wales Under-21s despite being sidelined by a hamstring injury, will be taken by the Rovers medical team.

Coyle said: “Corry has had no games but in a reverse kind of way the international break might help us because he will get that sustained training at a very high level and possibly some minutes in an international.

“Normally when players have been injured they don’t go away but the fact he’s recovering from injury means he can go and step up his training.

“Adam Henley continues to improve but he’s not been on any sessions with us yet so that’s something the medical team will look closely at.

“Corry is going along nicely, he’s looking sharper, and hopefully when he comes out of the international break he’ll be in amongst the group and ready to challenge for a place.”

Evans is unlikely to play any part of Saturday’s home clash with Fulham.

Coyle is hoping Darragh Lenihan will return after he missed the midweek EFL Cup win over Crewe Alexandra.  But Henley, Elliott Ward and Elliott Bennett are still out.
