I THINK Anthony Stokes is a good signing for Blackburn Rovers.

He’s got a good record in Scotland and, while he didn’t play much in his last season at Celtic, he went to Hibs and got a couple of goals in the cup final.

That performance put him in the shop window and we’ve managed to snap him up.

Hopefully he can replicate the goals he got in Scotland in the Championship with us.

And there’s no reason why he can’t do that. A goalscorer is a goalscorer.

He scored goals up in Scotland, and in the biggest games too, and if he can pick up the pace of the game down here quickly, then I’m sure he’ll settle in well.

But of course he will need players around him replicating the chances he got and put away at Celtic and at Hibs.

It seems like Owen Coyle is working hard to bring in more creative and pacy players. They should help.

But we still need more forwards. We’ve got one at the minute, in Anthony, and even if we were to play a 4-5-1 system next season, that’s nowhere near enough.

But the trick is not just bringing in someone for the sake of it. You’ve also got to bring in someone with quality.

Owen is trying to do that with Danny Graham, and you’d hope the fact that we’ve managed to attract a player like Anthony Stokes, that it may convince Danny to sign for us.

Getting Danny in would be a big help but, even then, we’re going to have to get one or two more forwards in, and for that Owen may look to the loan market, and Premier League clubs, to see if they have young players who they could send our way.

We also need a left-back, even if Tommy Spurr stays, so it goes to show that there is still a lot of wheeling and dealing to be done.

Yes, we’ve got Anthony in, but I still think we need another five or six more additions given the amount of players we will be letting go at the end of the month.

I imagine it will be hard to get everything done before the start of pre-season. The aim, then, has got to be for the first friendly.

We’ve got a lot of games and, in a no-pressure environment, they are the perfect opportunity to allow the new players to gel with the older players, and get to know the system Owen wants to play.

But whatever system you play you need to have someone at the top of the pitch who can put the ball in the net.

And, if Anthony can replicate what he did in Scotland, then we’ll have that player.
