THE Blackburn Rovers manager’s job will be a tough one for anybody to take on – but especially for an inexperienced boss.

I’m not saying they would be scared of the owners but I’d fear there’d be a danger that they would be dictated to too much.

Whereas if you hire an experienced manager they may well come in and say, ‘I want to do it like this, I want to do it like that, I want to do it my way’. Very much like Paul Lambert.

So that’s why I’m wary of the links with Neil Warnock.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s had success at most of the clubs he’s been at.

But how long would he want to be here for? It sounds like he wants to go to a club that has got a good chance of going up next season.

But unless Venky’s do a U-turn and say, ‘here’s some money to spend’, I can’t see how Neil would look at the current Rovers squad and think he could achieve that.

To get them up there challenging is going to take some money and, at the moment, the club doesn’t seem to have that.

If Neil came in I’d fear it’d end up like what happened with Paul. He was saying, ‘I want this, I want that’, but it soon became clear he wasn’t going to get it. We’d be back to square one again.

Maybe, then, the club will have to look lower down the divisions, and if they’re going to do that, Keith Hill is the one who stands out for me.

He deserves a shot at a bigger club. He’s got experience under his belt at Rochdale, where he’s done a great job with no money, and he knows the club.

I’m not sure about Neil Redfearn and, while Gareth Ainsworth is someone I really rate, I think it’s just a bit too early for him. He’s doing a great job at Wycombe Wanderers and I really do think he’s one for the future, just not yet.

So of the names being bandied about I’d go for Keith Hill.

But, if it’s Keith or whoever, there are major issues the club need to sort out off the field to give the new manager the best chance of being successful.

We all know what I’m talking about. We’ve been talking about the same things for the last three, four or five years now. It’s getting monotonous.

You’ve got to feel sorry for the fans and you wouldn’t blame them if they held back renewing their season tickets until they know what’s going on with their club.

They need something to excite them, something to unite them, and that’s why the appointment of the new manager is so important.
