THE main reason I’m glad Saturday is an early kick off is because it means the season will be over sooner.

Although, in all honesty, it was over by New Year.

The intrigue as to who will take the reins at Ewood would be more exciting if the memory of how positive we felt about Paul Lambert’s appointment wasn’t so clear – and look how that has played out.

Of course some who thought Lambert not good enough are now saying ‘told you so’ despite it being a visible lack of interest from the club owners Venky’s in anything but siphoning as much money back out of the club as they can that precipitated his departure.

If the owners want a middling second tier side who consistently finish between eighth and 15th, will groom or rehabilitate players for profit and occasionally draw a cup money-spinner, then they really should have kept hold of Lambert’s predecessor Gary Bowyer.

They will not get a quality manager or quality players by sitting on their hands hoping that said quality walks through the door at the training ground and offers to pay £10 subs per week.

If they have any real desire to get a large part of their investment back then they sorely need to speculate to accumulate.

As things stand however, the palpable sense is that the likes of Grant Hanley, Ben Marshall and Jason Lowe will be sold in the summer and that Venky’s only hope is that Shane Duffy has a great European Championship and puts some more money in their pocket.

As negative as it sounds 12 months ago there was the faint air of positivity.

Rovers had pulled out of the mire and were almost ready to move on. And still so many of us were unhappy.

A year on we see what may be our near-future, a few thousand great supporters who turn up through the thin as they did the thick.

I do despair that those fans who turned up and shared the glory days have turned their back on the club but what have Rovers done lately to entice them back?

They can barely keep some die-hard fans in the season ticket list.

The silence from India remains deafening.
