IT looks like promises made to Paul Lambert haven’t been met and it’s left us starting the search for another manager.

The thought crossed my mind that there may be a turnaround after the fans shouted his name in the win at Rotherham on Saturday but he said that was a definite ‘no’ afterwards.

You can understand why the fans are frustrated. After getting a decent manager we were all thinking, ‘this could be it’, but it just goes to show, don’t make false promises, because people will turn their back on them.

It’s not like Paul is fed-up of football. He’s made it clear he wants to stay in management. He just won’t be doing it here.

If you’re a manager looking for work you’d be scratching your head wondering why Paul has walked away from a long contract but you’d soon come to the conclusion it’s because he wasn’t going to get anything and he wasn’t going to be able to bring people in.

That makes it harder for prospective managers to think, ‘I’ll go in there and make a difference’, because there are going to be eight players out of contract and three going back to their parent clubs.

It looks like we’re going to have to delve into the free transfer and loan markets to replace them and try and have a look at what we’ve got in the youth set-up. That’s the way I think we’re heading.

I still know for a fact there’ll be a lot of managers who want to come to Blackburn. It’s a fantastic club but it depends what you want to work with.

I imagine a lot of people on the bookmakers’ list will be phoning Paul Lambert up about the football club. They’ll be asking massive questions.

Whether Paul sells the football club to them or lets them know what he’s found out may determine the status of the new manager but, whatever happens, I think we’re going to need somebody who knows the league, knows the market and can promote the youth side of it.

The development squad have had a good season but are they ready to step into the first team? That’s the question.

Are we going to have enough young players who are good enough to replace the players who have left? It’s not going to be easy.

At least we had something to cheer on Saturday.

I was impressed with the team and how they played. They played a different system and looked comfortable.

Rotherham had a lot of chances and probably against a better side we may have lost a goal or two but on the whole we played well and deserved it.

Also one quick mention for the crowd. They were fantastic.
