DEPARTING Blackburn Rovers director Alan Myers has been placed on gardening leave.

The commercial and communications director, who has also been carrying out some of Derek Shaw’s responsibilities following the departure of the club’s managing director in February, announced his decision to leave last month.

But Myers, who has a six-month period of notice in his contract, had remained in situ up until Monday of this week.

However he has now been told to stay away from the club until his notice period ends in September.

Finance director Mike Cheston, who has also taken on some of the duties left by Shaw, is now the only serving board member based at Ewood Park.

And it is understood that Cheston has agreed to take responsibility for all operational aspects of the club going forward.

Myers, who first joined Rovers in February 2014, told the Lancashire Telegraph in the week he handed in his notice: “I have made my decision to leave on my experiences, not on what may or may not happen in the future.

“I know what should happen at Blackburn Rovers. However that is not for me to decide.

“I wish the owners the very best of luck for the future, I have enjoyed a good relationship with them, and nothing would please me more than to see this club flourish.

“I hope they listen to and take the advice of the right people. Football can be an unforgiving environment sometimes.

“A football club needs strong leadership, one which has the authority to make decisions quickly and precisely. Whether you are at the top of the Premier League or bottom of League Two, this is essential as without it you will be found wanting.

“This club has a wonderful group of people working for it, dedicated and passionate staff who go beyond their remit on a daily basis.

“It makes me sad to think I have to leave these people behind but on the ground the club is in good hands that’s for sure and I will continue to give my all to the club while I still am here.”
