MARKUS Olsson is on the verge of leaving Blackburn Rovers after they received what boss Paul Lambert described as a ‘very good’ offer for their reigning player of the year.

Lambert did not name the club interested in signing the left-back but it is understood to be Championship rivals, and long-term admirers, Derby County.

Olsson, who has six months left on his current contract and, despite talks, has not agreed a new deal to remain at Ewood Park, travelled with Rovers for today’s 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic.

But afterwards his manager confirmed the reason he was left out of the matchday squad was because he is expected to move on before the transfer window closes on Monday week.

“Something could be happening with Markus this week so we’ll have to wait and see,” said Lambert, when asked why the Sweden international was not involved.

“Another club has come in. Obviously Markus is out of contract and, if we get the money, then it’s going to be a really good deal for the club because he is out of contract and he can walk away for nothing (in the summer).

“The money is good for somebody who is going to be out of contract.”
