BLACKBURN Rovers legend Alan Shearer will be the guest of honour at the club’s match at home to Nottingham Forest on Monday night.
The 45-year-old is returning to the town for the unveiling of the new stretch of road across from Ewood Park that has been named after him.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has bestowed the honour on Shearer to recognise the integral role he played in the club’s remarkable rise back to the summit of English football.
And after Alan Shearer Way is officially opened the Match of the Day pundit will make his way over to his old stomping ground for the Championship clash with Forest later in the evening.
In 171 appearances for the club Shearer scored an incredible 130 goals including 34 in the famous 1994-95 Premiership title-winning campaign.
The former England striker netted nine hat-tricks for Rovers including one in the famous 7-0 home success over Forest 20 years ago last month in a match that marked the official reopening of the ground Jack Walker built.
Shearer will be joined at the roadside ceremony by Rovers managing director Derek Shaw, director of communications Alan Myers and club president Keith Lee, along with council officials.
