ROVERS’ most memorable recent home victory over this weekend’s opponents Sheffield Wednesday sealed their place in the 2002 Worthington Cup final.
Leading 2-1 from the first leg, Graeme Souness’ side ran out 4-2 winners thanks to goals from Matt Jansen, Damien Duff, Andy Cole and Craig Hignett to triumph 6-3 on aggregate.
But after captain Garry Flitcroft was sent off for a two-footed challenge on Trond Egil Soltvedt, the lower-division Owls at one staged threatened a comeback on a night to remember at Ewood Park.
