DAVID Dunn has expressed his delight after being appointed as permanent manager of Oldham Athletic.

The Blackburn Rovers legend was handed the Boundary Park reins on a full-time basis on Tuesday after leading the Latics to four successive League One score draws during his interim spell in charge.

And Dunn, who joined Oldham as a player in the summer after leaving Rovers, said: “I’m delighted for the opportunity the club has given me.

“I was still a player at the start of the season and I’m lucky enough to be given this opportunity and it’s something I’m really proud of.

“I’m happy with how things have gone and I’m looking forward to my future with the club.

“I’m really excited about it and hopefully we can put the smiles back on the supporters of the club.”

Up until he was made the Latics’ caretaker manager, Dunn had appeared in every league game.

And the 35-year-old said: “There is still a possibility of me playing and it’s something I’ve not given up on.

“It was important that I got everything sorted first in terms of the solidity of our team which I think we’ve got over the last couple of weeks.”

Dunn has been linked with a loan move for young Rovers winger John O’Sullivan after signing defenders Daniel Lafferty and Cameron Dummigan on loan from Burnley.

“We are always looking to strengthen,” said Dunn.

“One thing we won’t be doing is bringing players for the sake of it. They have to be players that can help us.”
